Hi my friends,

I have no idea what kind of bird this is. He looked for me like a big Ibis, my husband thought it's somewhat like a stork.... do you know the name of this species? :))

 

Thank you for the comments on my last post, they are all very much appreciated.

 

After 2 days stay in the hospital, I hope I can bring hubby back home today. We are waiting for the results of the Cardiologist... cross your fingers for us!

A Black Raven...

He liked to pose in front of my camera: "The Raven"

...and here in a portrait from the left side....

I met this photogenic little black "guy" on my travels in the Petrified Forest in Arizona and of course, he was only begging for food, not for portraits shots :)

I think a lot of you know also the poem "The Raven" - we had to read it in school, right?

"The Raven"

is a narrative poem by the American writer Edgar Allan Poe, first published in January 1845. It is often noted for its musicality, stylized language, and supernatural atmosphere. It tells of a talking raven's mysterious visit to a distraught lover, tracing the man's slow descent into madness. The lover, often identified as being a student, is lamenting the loss of his love, Lenore. The raven, sitting on a bust of Pallas, seems to further instigate his distress with its constant repetition of the word "Nevermore". The poem makes use of a number of folk and classical references.

Poe claimed to have written the poem very logically and methodically. His intention was to create a poem that would appeal to both critical and popular tastes, as he explains in his 1846 follow-up essay "The Philosophy of Composition". The poem was inspired in part by a talking raven in the novel Barnaby Rudge: A Tale of the Riots of 'Eighty by Charles Dickens. Poe borrows the complex rhythm and meter of Elizabeth Barrett's poem "Lady Geraldine's Courtship". The poem makes use of internal rhyme as well as alliteration throughout.

The first printing of "The Raven" was in the January 29, 1845, issue of the New York Evening Mirror. Its publication made Poe widely popular in his lifetime though it did not bring him much financial success. The poem was soon reprinted, parodied, and illustrated. Although critical opinion is divided as to its status, it remains one of the most famous poems ever written.

And the Eagle flies...

This was the first time in my life I have seen eagles flying in the wild so close. I wish, I would have had my longer 600mm lens with me to capture those "Bald Head Eagles" better! There were for sure five of them circling over my head, loud screaming - while down in the water the fisher man enjoyed the tranquility of the Cooper River and tried to catch some good pieces for his dinner.

A day in Spring at Folly Beach

Beautiful colors of the water and the sky and some people were already enjoying the sunshine. This is the place to be on a day like this!

A place, where flying kites are not only for little boys...

A place where airplanes meet the clouds...

...and fourteen pelicans are flying over your head...

and you will find some still living shells in the water

and of course, where hubby has to take a closer look to it too - don't worry, we released it back to the sea.

The place also, where palm trees are giving a very tropical look to the scene - I felt almost like back in Key West :-)

...where the palm leafs have very strong colors...

..where black birds are singing in the limbs...

...and on the other side is his neighbor singing too, a brown bird. Can anyone tell me the real names for these little cute birdies?

Do this plant will have some flowers too? I'm pretty sure they'll do, later in the summer - because just now it's "only" springtime.

It's so much fun to spend some time at the beach - and it's big fun to live in Charleston!
