For most travelers, an airplane is a way to get to a destination — but for the folks staying at Costa Verde Hotel, the destination is the airplane.
Hotel Costa Verde, Costa Rica used to be just a lodge until they added a fully outfitted, two bedroom suite made from a refurbished 1965 Boeing 727 airframe.
Before becoming a two bedroom hotel room, the Boeing 727 flew for South African Air and Avianca Airlines.
The airframe was salvaged piece by piece from the San Jose, Costa Rica airport. Each piece was individually transported through the jungle and reassembled on a 50-foot pedestal. While it's not thoroughly green, with teak furnishings shipped over from Costa Rica, it'd sure make for a memorable trip.
It’s definitely not your average vacation hotel, but if you’re into trying new things, the Costa Rica plane-hotel is worth $300-$350 per night.
